Big Volcano® Ecotourism Resource Centre
About the Ecotourism Resource Centre
Our Philosophy || Citation, Credits, Referencing
Initially gathered over many months of research undertaken in 1995-96, for the Big Volcano® website, the tourism, travel, environment and related sites linked from the Ecotourism Resource Centre (ERC) are updated on an occasional basis. (See page footer for most recent page update.)
Sites represent various stages of development, both in content and design, so you have the opportunity to learn from and exchange information with your peers. Of course, we expect any contacts made to be within the bounds of normal Netiquette.
Where time and inclination allows, we provide a short description, often extracted directly from the site or page, and whether the link goes to an article or paper of some sort, or if it goes to other link directories. For example, a site may have a very good resource management list. If most of their links are previously unvisited by us, we'll include the master site only rather than reinventing it ourselves.
And sometimes a brief critique of the site aesthetics, download speed etc. will also be included. Big Volcano® works from a home office in a rural location. We currently use a fixed wireless "broadband" connection with widely fluctuating bandwidth performance, so if any page is slow to load for us we'll say so.
Our Philosophy
The tourism, travel and hospitality industries are particularly well placed to make a positive contribution to environmentally sustainable development. The WWW (World Wide Web) provides an incredible opportunity for us to educate ourselves and our customers (on whom ultimately, all our livelihoods depend) about appropriate behaviour.
We can work toward this by ensuring that web sites attractively presented, fast to load and are easy to find, both online and off. Material included should be appropriate to the audience, informative and yes, even entertaining!
Citing:
Did the resources available in the Big Volcano® Ecotourism Resource Centre (ERC) or other content on the Big Volcano® Visitor Guide, help you with your research? Did you find the information useful, or get directed to other useful information?
If the answer is yes, then please cite the ERC in your bibliography, footnotes or references. If your work is "on the web" then please also include a live link back to the web page being quoted, or to the Big Volcano Ecotourism Resource Centre home page, and contact us via Twitter or Facebook to let us know where we can find it.

The Online Writing Lab (OWL) at Purdue University "...houses writing resources and instructional material, and we provide these as a free service of the Writing Lab at Purdue. Teachers and trainers may use this material for in-class and out-of-class instruction." Here's the site-map.
