Ecolodges, holiday eco cabins, nature retreats, eco-friendly accommodation and rainforest accommodation in the Byron Bay, Tweed Valley and Richmond Valley of NSW, and Gold Coast hinterland, Scenic Rim region of QLD, Australia.
Usually located on rainforest or bush blocks, Eco Lodges and Nature Retreats may be accredited under the National Ecotourism Prrogramme or they choose to adhere to the established general Code of Practice for Ecotourism Operators, with environmentally friendly accomodation, facilities and measures in place, to provide tranquil, nature-based getaways.
These often include: solar hot water, solar grid connect power generation, recycling program, energy-efficient light globes, use of environmentally friendly cleaning products, low-flow toilets (standard dual flush here in Australia) and low flow showerheads, vege garden, and on-site rainwater storage.
Many operators also participate in environmental conservation and rehabilitation programs, and/or educational or scientific monitoring programs. Passive activities like bushwalking and bird watching will generally be available on site. Most hosts will also have a library of relevant books and local information.
